“This is an operational decision based on the limited demand for services and financial performance that did not support continued operations,” a spokesperson said in a statement to National Jeweler.
The lab is slated to close July 31.
Logistics service Malca-Amit will provide shipping services from Antwerp for submissions to other GIA laboratories.
It is the only GIA laboratory in Europe, but there are 11 other locations worldwide, including in the U.S., China, Thailand, India, Japan, Botswana, South Africa, and Israel.
