DAVIS, John F. Jr. Age 98, died peacefully at his house in Winchester, on December 30, 2022. A son of the late John F. and Nellie Davis, he was born on November 12, 1924. He grew up in Cambridge, MA and attended the Cambridge College in close by Weston.
He entered the Jewellery and Silversmithing Division on the College of the Museum of Positive Arts in 1946. He acquired the Boit Prize in 1949, and the next 12 months, the Particular Gem prize, by which a treasured stone is awarded to the winner. He additionally acquired a touring fellowship in 1949, which he used to go to Denmark, Germany and England. Even earlier than commencement, he acquired prestigious commissions together with a baptismal bowl, a ciborium, a pair of altar cruets and a chalice given to Trinity Church, Boston, in reminiscence of its rector Dr. Theodore P. Ferris.
After commencement, he moved to Philadelphia to proceed his work. He was a proud and lively member at Saint Marks Church for a few years. He lived a full and wealthy life and can be missed by those that knew him.
He’s survived by his niece, Susan Malloy of Winchester; nephew, Frank Davis and spouse, Kathleen of Winchester; great-niece, Caitlin Murphy and husband, John of Westwood; great-niece, Maureen Davis of San Francisco; and great-great niece, Millie Murphy of Westwood.
